Mission of  Yemi Getachew Foundation

​

The Yemi Getachew foundation is being established to build upon Yemi’s humanitarian work and enduring purpose to help the vulnerable and the disenfranchised. Throughout her life, Yemi was passionate and deeply personally engaged in making the world a better place!  In this spirit, the foundation will focus on three areas.

​

• Support of cancer patients and their families 

  • The foundation will help raise funds and support groups and organizations that Yemi belonged to or who are involved in projects along this vein in both the US and in Ethiopia. 

​

• Education.

  • Yemi deeply believed in and personally experienced the transformational power of  education.  To further her vision in this area, the organization will establish scholarship funds in her name, to support students and families in Ethiopia and in the US. The foundation will also continue to support educational institutions with whom Yemi had already established relationships and forge new relationships with institutions that are especially focused on bridging gaps to educational access.

• Immigration reform writ large.

  • ​​The foundation will support families and communities in need of legal advice and support, by partnering with individuals, initiatives and programs reflective of her passion and commitment in this area including immigration reform.

Spirituality and faith were at the core of who Yemi was. The foundation will strive to reflect and embody Yemi’s humanity, spirituality and empathy, and weave these approaches into its mission and its works.
