Inaugural Event

The foundation held its first ever gala and fundraiser on

September 11, 2023, 12 noon to 5:00 pm.

Celebrating the Ethiopian New Year

To celebrate Yemi and in an attempt to encapsulate her legacy and passions the foundation has identified three areas: to support cancer patients and their families, provide educational opportunities for the underserved and assist new immigrants in need of legal guidance.

Accordingly the foundation has identified these organizations which will receive all the funds raised through this inaugural fundraiser.

Our goal is to raise $100,000.00. The funds will be equitably distributed among these non-profits based on their needs. The fundraiser will continue online until November 10th, the one year anniversary of Yemi leaving us.

Memorial Walk

On Saturday, November 11, 2023, we had an informal memorial walk in honor of Yemi. The walk took place in San Jose, California. The walk began at 255 N. Market Street and ended at LeYou Ethiopian. Friends and family enjoyed the fellowship and shared memories of Yemi. It was a wonderful luncheon.

It was really nice to see everyone in their Yemi Anbesa teeshirt but Liz stole the show with a Special Yemi Getachew Foundation custom teeshirt.

Next year we will plan it better with permits and good advertising so everyone can join in.. For all who were able to be there, Thank You... You made a special day for Ma and of course a big thanks to Aida and the LeYou Crew for hosting us.

Memorial Gathering

On Saturday, December 9th, friends of Yemi will gathered at Haile Orchard to spend an afternoon reconnecting and recollecting favorite Yemi memories. We also used this time to create and strengthen the East Coast team that will support the mission of the Yemi Getachew Foundation

Friends from near and far came together and made a very special event especially honoring Yemi by having a lot of laughs and a true bonding experience.

We would like to thank all that came and shared memories as well as gave the foundation a resounding voice of encouragement We hope to make this a yearly gathering.
